This is a great game to illustrate how love can spread and the children can take home an instant momento to remember the lesson.
Resources:
- paper
- scissors
- masking tape
- blindfold
- coloured pencils (optional)
- Create a heart for each child. If you want to make a full lesson out of this game, get the children to draw a picture of how they can love someone on their heart.
- Put a loop of masking tape (sticks better than sticky tape)on the back of each heart.
- Blindfold all the children.
- Choose a child to start. The children must walk around and the 'it' child must try to stick the heart on another child. The child that has been tagged must then use the heart that he/she made to tag another child.
- If a child had already been tagged and used his/her heart the must take the second heart that was stuck on them and use that to tag another child. Keep going until every child has been tagged with love.
To make it more difficult, tell the children not to talk. The leader must therefore be the 'mouth' for the group and say things like "There is a child to your left who has not been tagged."
Try timing the group and do a couple of rounds to see how fast they can get everyone tagged with love.
This game could be an introduction to a lesson about love. God loves us (tagged us with love) so we have love that we can use to love other people (tag other people with love). God commands us to love other people. How can you think of to love other people? Talk about different scenarios. Perhaps the children could now draw another way to love someone on the other side of the heart. You could punch a hole in the top of the heart and put a piece of ribbon or sting through it to hang it up at home.
