Simple Puppets and Stages
Back to Story Presentation Ideas
There is no set way to do a puppet show. It will depend on whether you are doing it on your own or there are more than one person, your budget, how much you want to create, the space and even the story you tell.
These are a couple of my ideas, but you can be as creative as you like and do anything you want... try anything once!
Finger puppets
Easy to make out of felt, decorated thimbles or the fingers off old gloves.
Sock puppets
Decorate old socks into puppets and slip over your hand. We did this in the Animal Praise program to make zebra puppets.
Box puppet theatre
Find a large cardboard box. Tip it on the side. Cut chanels out of the side (now at the top of the box) about 1 cm wide. These can be connected or separate, windy or straight. You could draw/paint a backdrop in the bottom (back) or the box if you would like. Draw, decorate and cut out characters in cardboard. Sticky tape a piece of string from the back of the figures and join the other end to a popstick, toothpick or matchstick. Drop the characters into the box through the precut chanels. The characters can be moved by the popstick which is on the outside of the box. If you are using a couple of characters it can get a bit tricky, so practice first if you don't want to get into a complete tangle!
Tongue depressor puppets
Decorate an end of a tongue depressor. You could put clothes on it by using fabric scraps or paper etc.
