Resources:

Clean, white sand

Overhead projector

Projector screen (or plain wall)

Large photo frame

Glue

To make Sand Frame:

• Remove back off photo frame.
• Glue in glass to frame, ensuring you make a continuous line of glue right around the side so the sand cannot leak through.
• Place Sand Frame on the overhead projector with the front side down.
• Spread a thin film of sand inside the Sand Frame.

To tell stories:

• Use your finger to draw a simple picture in the sand.
• Use the palm of your hand to respread the sand to start a new picture.
• Keep the pictures simple. Stick figures for people, simple symbols such as a crown for a king or if children can read you could use letters.
• If using letters make sure you know which way to draw so the letters are the right way on the screen.
