 New Year's Resolutions

Back to New Year's Celebrations

Many adults do them every year but kids are told they are too young? Really? Are they too young? Why not use them to get the kids excited about God!

  • Talk about what New Year's Resolutions are - a decision to change something to make it better this year.
  • Suggest some possible resolutions - read the Bible/pray more. Invite friends to your outreach program. Obey parents first time.
  • Get the children to think up their own resolution. You might need to help them think up realisitic ones. If they are not realistic the children won't want to stick to them.
  • Write the resolution down on some coloured paper. Decorate it and make it into a piece of artwork the children are proud of. The children can take this home and put it on their wall to help remind them.
  • Ask the children to show their's and share them with the group if appropriate.
  • Write the child's resolution down on another paper and seal it in an envelope, then write the child's name on it. Keep the envelope, do not send it home.
  • Talk about God being the only one who can help us change things.
  • Pray that God will help the children keep their resolutions.

  • Once a term, every month or just when you think the kids are forgetting their resolutions bring out the envelopes. Get the children to reevaluate their resolutions. How are they going? Do they need to restep up the efforts? Ask God to help them again in their resolutions.
