LifeWorks Display Board Program

Back to Programs

Every program I do is based around a theme of some type. This program's 'theme' was creating a display board picture. You can download a picture of how the board was going to look here: Life works picture + car.bmp. (Unfortunately I never took a photo of it all done!)

Each week the children made an craft activity as a group which they stuck on the board. The object had flaps/doors/pullout parts etc to show a Bible verse and concept catchphrase related to it.

For example, one week the children each painted a point which was stuck onto the outside of a paperplate to create a sun. The sun was attached to another paperplate with a splitpin and on the inside we wrote, "God does not change like shifting shaddows. James 1:15." Being a science teacher, I took the opportunity to do a little science experiement. Before the lesson I stood one of the children outside on a piece of butchers paper and drew around them and their feet. During the lesson we then did it again and looked at how the shaddow changed. We learned that light (the sun) makes shaddows (the children were 4-8 years, so some already knew but for some this was definitely new!). The shaddows always moved. We played a game where I got the kids to make different shapes and see their shaddow change. God doesn't change though. He is always the same. (For a funny story about this, check out the From the mouth of babes... page.)

At the end of the term we had created a big display board that we left in the church for everyone to see. The kids enjoyed showing anyone who would look how to pull/spin/open the flaps and read the Bible verses. It was great! And made for a very easy church presentation - the kids just loved showing it off!

If you want the whole program - drop me an email at: kidsministryresources@live.com.au. I'd be more than happy to share/exchange ideas.

One day I will try it again making a different picture because the kids loved it so much. If you get the inclination to give it a go, I'd love to hear how it worked out for you!
