Look at this ring (necklace/bracelet/earring...). It is made of gold (silver). How expensive do you think it is? (I don't know how expensive it is, but it is very special to me. See, this ring was given to me by my dad when I was very sick and in hospital. He went out to the jewellery stores, looked all over and chose this one, because he knew I would like it. He did it to show me just how much he loved me, when I needed to know people loved me the most. So to me, not only is this ring worth heaps and heaps of dollars, its very very valuable to me because of what it reminds me of.) It's probably one of the most valuable possessions I have. If I went to the pawn shop and sold it, I would probably get more money back for it than anything else. But you know what, money isn't everything. Yes, it's worth heaps of money, but I would never sell it because it is so valuable in another way. It reminds me of my dad's love for me.
But there is something else I have that is even more valuable to me. Can you guess what it is? (Hold up the Bible) You know, I'm not the only one to think this book is pretty special. It says in Psalm 119 "Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver." Who's instructions? God's! And where do we find God's instructions? In the Bible. But why do you think God's instructions in the Bible are so valuable? They are a fool-proof, undeniable, impossible to shake, warrior building, life changing recipe for your life. If you follow what is written in the Bible you will have a relationship with God here on earth so close to him it is like nothing you have ever imagined and when you die, you will go to heaven, you will spend eternity worshipping the God of this universe. Pretty amazing, huh? That's why David who wrote that verse in Psalms, and why I think that the Bible is worth more than any gold or silver.
Psalm 119:72 Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver.
