Group Pictionary
This is an old idea, so I can't take credit for it. I remember playing it in primary school and highschool, but it is great if you need an instant game.
Resouces:
- lots of paper (or several pads of paper)
- pens
- Before the game choose a Bible story or topic for the day to make a list of words. Make sure the words are age appropriate and aren't too difficult to draw. Nouns work best. For example: Christmas!
tree
baby
horse
star
house
present/gift
sheep
angel
- Split the children into groups (no bigger than 4 or not all the children get a go) and give each group a stack of paper and a pen or coloured pencils to make it easier.
- Call one child from each group up to you to start the game. Tell these children the first word on your list (without telling the children sitting in the groups). They must run back to their group and draw the word without talking. The rest of the group must try to guess the word.
- When someone has guessed the word they must run back to the leader and whisper the word they guessed to the leader. The leader then tells the child the next word to draw.
- The first team to guess all the words on the list wins.
Ask the children if they can guess the story or theme you have chosen. Use this to lead into telling a story (see instant ideas for telling a story) or talking about a theme.
