General Crafts for any purpose

Ok, you've probably seen most of these ideas before, but sometimes it is nice to have a 'checklist' when you are trying to find that activity!

Back to Art and Craft

Scrunch Pictures

Tear crepe paper into 5cm squares (or smaller). Scrunch the pieces of crepe paper and sick on a picture to add a 3D effect to colouring pictures or to create your own picture.

Masks

You can create a mask about any character for a story. For old Abraham you could create a beard, or animal masks for an animal character.

Part Colouring Pictures

Children can get bored of colouring pictures every week. Instead, why not give the children a very small start to the story - like a rainbow - and get the children to finish the picture. Each child will create their own unique interpretation of what they have learned.

Pipecleaner shapes

Warning: older children project! Buy a few packets of pipe cleaners (very cheap!) and get the children to (individually, pairs, small group or whole class) create a shape or picture about what they have learned. Also good for making the letters of a Bible verse. When finished, get the children to take them apart for storage in your cupboard (and a cheap and simple activity for any time).

Simple Finger Print 'Painting'

Ok, have you ever wanted to do finger painting but thought it was just too messy? Here's an alternative. Stamp fingerprints with stamppads. Don't worry about washing fingers until after the picture is finished. Show the children that they can stamp on a scrap piece of paper until their finger doesn't have ink on it before they change colours so the colours don't mix. They children can create their own picture or 'colour' a colouring picture.

Whip Cream Painting

Warning: an outdoor activity. Art shirts required. Before class, whip cream until thick. Divide into several containers and mix some food colouring into each container to make several colours. Give each child an art shirt (food colouring stains) and a piece of alfoil. The children can use spoons and their fingers to make a picture on the foil. If there is only a little bit of cream on their picture, you could stamp it with a piece of paper to transfer the picture and hang it up to dry. This activity is great for creative photos.

Potato Prints

Cut potatoes into 2 cm thick slices, then cut the potato slices into different shapes that represent the lesson. Use the potato slices to decorate a page with a simple title.
