Floor Board Games

Back to Games related to Bible stories

This is a really easy game to play and the children love it. You can do it on any theme, either review a lesson or teach a lesson. I use it so often that I actually went to a curtin shop and bought some small, CHEAP fabric remnants which I cut into squares. Its even easier than using newspaper.

Resources:

  • Dice (or cards with numbers 1-6 on it and a box or bag to put them in)
  • newspaper (or fabric squares)
  • masking tape or sticky tape (only if you are using newspaper)
  • either cards with 3 different typs of pictures or words on, or three colours of paper.
  • I know! Ready, Set, Go! and Surprise! cards (optional: you could create this on the spot if you are fast enough)

1. Lie the newspaper in snake around the room (Tape to the ground if you are using newspaper). We use 30 squares for an hour lesson. Tape the I know! Ready, Set Go! and Surprise cards at random on different squares.

2. Have all the children start at one end of the snake. The first child rolls the dice (or selects a numbered card) and steps out the number. If the child steps on a card the must do the following:

  • I know! - answer a question about the story/topic
  • Ready, Set, Go! - an action. Hop 4 times, tag 3 people in the room, sing a song etc
  • Surprise! - move forwards, backwards, switch with another player, miss a turn

3. Because I work with young children, instead of missing a turn etc if a child can't answer a question, I let them 'phone a friend'.

I often use a Noah's ark theme, even if the questions are on the actual theme we are learning about at the time. I stick a picture of the ark on the wall at the end of the snake. I have random dress up pieces and encourage the children to dress up as animals (the children love being called Little Miss Butterfly etc). The 'animals' have to get to the ark. The surprise cards are related to Noah's ark (An elephant is sleeping on the path so you must look for another way round. Miss one turn. A tall giraffe can see a quicker path. Go ahead 2 spaces.)
