Object talk - Apple (Hidden sin)

• Before the lesson cut a nice looking apple in half and let the apple go brown. (Don't worry, you don't have to eat it!)Put the apple halves back together so the apple is a whole apple.

Who likes apples? Who would like to eat this apple? It looks very nice, doesn't it? (Pull the apple apart and show the children the browned inside of the apple) How horrible! It doesn't really look good inside. It looked lovely on the outside, but on the inside it looked horrible.

Sometimes we are like that apple. We look lovely on the outside. We smile and put on lovely clothes. We make the outside - where everone sees - look beautiful. But sometimes our insides aren't very nice. We don't think anyone can see it. Just like we couldn't see the inside of the apple. But there is someone who can see our inside. God can. God sees what we are on the inside. When we sin, we make our inside all yucky - just like the apple was brown and yucky. No-one wants that! What do you do when you get a brown and yucky apple? Throw it in the bin. But God won't get rid of you when you sin. He wants to forgive you and make you beautiful on the inside. We can't make the apple nice again, but we can ask God to forgive forgive us and he will make us beautiful and nice again on the inside.

How do you ask God to forgive you? You could say something like this: "Lord Jesus, I am very sorry that I did ... . I know it was wrong and I ask you to forgive me and make me nice on the inside again. Please help me to not do this again. In Jesus name, Amen."
